Since 1986, Maine Island Kayak Co has provided unusual journeys, structured courses, and great trips among outer islands on the sea. Founded by Tom Bergh, MIKCo has guided kayakers in the unique waters of the Gulf of Maine and beyond: from Alaska to Baja, Wales to British Columbia, the Canadian Maritimes to Florida - anywhere beautiful and challenging paddling beckons.
Down in the southern hemisphere in 2000, Tom Bergh, Stan Chladek, and Nigel Dennis successfully circumnavigated Nelson Island in the South Shetland Islands: the first unsupported expedition of its kind. The archipelago lies about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of the Antarctic Peninsula.
Maine Island Kayak Co is committed to your personal development as a paddler on the sea - both your boat maneuvering skills in conditions and your seamanship and judgmental skills. Going to sea in a small boat is a worthy commitment that a provides a lifetime of learning; it’s about connecting with yourself and your environment.
