My mission is to bring great boats to wonderful people, being sensitive to the environment, and offering all the help I can to those who want to learn to paddle these wonderful boats in some of the best areas of the World.

Our Mission

All the boats and associated gear will be curated, e.g. highly tested, and selected for effectiveness, speed, strength, durability, price and beauty. Where possible we will source locally. Always we will source righteously. We will not sell neoprene as to make it one spoils the world significantly. We WILL offer a second space, the Chart Room, as a place to hang out, use the internet, read about kayaking, both commercial and technical books will be on shelves, and if you want, to plan a tour using our gear, charts and knowledge whether you are going out with or without a guide. The culture surrounding kayaking and thus our Shop, is one of friendliness, care, help, warmth, environmental attention, hard work and hard play. We aim to be that place in Maine.

The boats are our focus

The boats are the focus of our shop. They are, in our view, amongst the best of the best.  To be sure they are advanced but they can be learned by anyone over time. We recognize that different boats fit different people, body wise as well as activity wise. While we will display selected boats from the three brands we will carry, we have virtually every model available in storage at Peaks Island locations. If someone comes to the Shop and likes something from, say, NDK and its not on our shelf, we can arrange for the boat to be brought over to the Shop in minutes. More importantly we recognize that purchasing a boat is a thoughtful experience. They are expensive and beautiful and deserving of thought. As such we also recognize that you should "test drive" the boats, or "demo" them as it is said. We have arrange a Demo Center in association with Maine Island Kayak Co. on Peaks Island. We will supply the ferry ticket so a customer who is interested can demo a selected boat in the relatively protected area of Peaks Island, rather then the turbulent waters around the Maine Wharf where the shop is located. That way a customer can make an appointment , take a short ferry ride and then try the kayak out for an hour or so to get a real feel for the boat.

In addition, we want to offer customization on the NDK boats. At this point the NDK boats we are bringing in have already been partially customized for the market in Maine and the United States. The modifications are subtle but improve the boat for our customer.  However, NDK will go further. If a customer wants to order in the Fall to take delivery in the Sprint, NDK will do full customization, including special paint orders, etc. at no charge. Customization after a boat gets over to us will be an extra charge.
